HORTUS INFINITUS
Designer: Tony Smith
Having pursued a successful career as a tennis coach, Tony reverted to his first love, gardening, in 2000. He quickly progressed from jobbing gardener to designer, setting up his own landscaping business, Hortus infinitus.
In 2005 he exhibited his first show garden at Hampton Court receiving a Silver Gilt medal. Tony followed this success with two consecutive gold medals and best in show awards in Hampton’s conceptual category. This led in 2009, to show gardens at Chelsea, Hampton and Tatton Park for Quilted Velvet, receiving a silver and two gold medals.
As well as designing medal winning gardens, Tony has produced numerous conceptual art installations, notably his comment on the Iraq War at Chelsea
in 2008 entitled ‘More Questions Than Answers’.
